Every year, Discover St. Johnsbury prepares a report compiling business changes within our downtown district. For the past few years, we've been happy to share record-breaking totals of new businesses, and 2023 was no exception. Please join us in welcome the seventeen (!!!) new businesses who opened or relocated to St. Johnsbury's downtown last year: Several of the these names may already be familiar to people in St. Johnsbury or the Northeast Kingdom, but are counted because they chose to move into the downtown from previous locations. This includes two large social service organizations who moved their headquarters onto Main Street, almost a dozen new service businesses, one retail shop, a restaurant, and two craft studios. It's worth noting that the list does not include several who opened in 2023, but happen to be located outside of the official downtown district, like 98 Mill, Salon Ruelle, 4M Lavender, and more. While we can't count them among our downtown total, we're excited to welcome them to St. Johnsbury too! Of course, there were some businesses who left us last year, with notable mention to Central Cafe, Pica Pica Filipino Cuisine, SMD Outdoors, Palmer's Dry Cleaning, and Walgreen's Pharmacy. However, even when counting closures and downsizes, St. Johnsbury can report some astonishing overall growth. Since the start of the pandemic, a NET of 34 new businesses, representing 110+ new employees, are working here in downtown St. J.
