Business Resources

‍St. Johnsbury has been a regional hub for culture and commerce in Northeastern Vermont for well over a century and continues to offer a welcoming business climate for new and established businesses. Today, Interstates 91 and 93, State Routes 2 and 5, and freight rail infrastructure continue to support St. Johnsbury’s centrality.

Although St. Johnsbury has access to major transportation infrastructure that supports larger commercial developments, it also maintains the historic integrity of its 19th century downtown and is an active member of the Main Street America national network recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. As such, businesses within the designated Downtown in St. Johnsbury receive technical support by the St. Johnsbury Chamber of Commerce (the official Downtown organization) and have access to a host of tax credits that reward business owners for making capital investments in their business properties.

Membership in the Downtown program also makes St. Johnsbury eligible for priority consideration for State grants, which fund a variety of projects such as streetscape improvements and bike lane construction that enhance the commercial downtown. Quality of life is priceless, and here in St. Johnsbury you’ll find a balance of work and relaxation that suits all kinds of interests. Jobs in healthcare, legal practice, financial services, education and the arts lead the way in our diverse community. There are opportunities for entrepreneurs and all levels of manufacturing. You’ll find employers who are invested in and engaged with the people they support.

Northeastern Vermont Development Association (NVDA)

The Northeastern Vermont Development Association (NVDA), located on Eastern Avenue in downtown St. Johnsbury, is both the Regional Economic Development Corporation and the Regional Planning Commission for the Northeast Kingdom.
NVDA is dedicated to helping businesses succeed and provides assistance with site selection and financing, as well as information on a host of grant and incentive programs available to businesses. NVDA is also a point of contact for two innovative programs that assist businesses relocating or expanding to the region: the Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) #286 and the Vermont Quebec Enterprise initiative (VQEI). Location in a FTZ allows manufacturers to reduce, defer or eliminate duties on imported parts and achieve “best practices” in supply chain security.
The VQEI partnership is focused on bilateral, value-added economic development.
