St. Johnsbury Welcome Center Weekend Staff
Discover St. Johnsbury is seeking candidates for the position of St. Johnsbury Welcome Center Weekend Staff. This position provides a welcoming and safe atmosphere for visitors and community members using the St. Johnsbury Welcome Center on weekends.
Time commitment: In the winter and early spring the position is on Saturdays only from 10am - 3pm. During the busy tourism season between Memorial Day in May and Indigenous People’s Day in October, the position increases to include both Saturdays and Sundays, 10am - 3pm, excluding select holidays. Additional hours are possible on an occasional basis to substitute for week-day Welcome Center staff, or during busy event weekends. Occasional week-day meetings will be requested to provide orientation and updates in concert with other Welcome Center staff.
Compensation: This position is hourly (non-exempt) at Vermont minimum wage. This position is available as an internship with academic credit, with prior arrangement with your degree-granting organization.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be friendly, outgoing, trustworthy, and able to work independently. Being knowledgeable and enthusiastic about St. Johnsbury and the Northeast Kingdom is particularly desirable. Previous customer service experience is a plus, but not required. - Maintain a safe and supportive environment for visitors and community members.
- Monitor supply needs and cleanliness of the Welcome Center.

2024 Summer Events Assistant
During an exciting and busy summer season Discover St. Johnsbury manages and executes community events that feature dozens of vendors and thousands of attendees. This summer, Discover St. Johnsbury is seeking support for two event series that take place in downtown St. Johnsbury: St. J Final Fridays (on the final Friday of June, July & August) and the Food Truck Popup @ The Pavilion (on the second and fourth Tuesday of the same period). Tasks will include support for the Executive Director in managing outreach and communication with event vendors, as well as maintenance of the event website, support for event outreach, and similar. Day-of support on most event dates is particularly needed, with a commitment to supporting two or more evening events per month desired. This position is ideal for a self-motivated student, or a teacher on summer break. Gain event management skills like vendor tracking, permitting requirements, relationship management with a variety of stakeholders, and other production skills.
Time Commitment: The total time commitment, ideally starting mid-May through the end of August, is anticipated to be 120 hours. The weekly commitment is flexible and will vary from 5-16 hours per week, with the higher value during event weeks in June, July & August, and a typical work week closer to 5.
Compensation: An hourly rate of $20.00 will support this non-exempt, part-time, temporary position. This position is available as an internship with academic credit, with prior arrangement with your degree-granting organization.
Qualifications: An ideal assistant would be detail-oriented, able to think and act quickly & independently, outgoing, and have some experience managing events (even if it's just planning a birthday party, or club activities, etc.) Experience using software like Google Suites, Canva, or web editing platforms is a plus. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office or Google Suite (website editing experience a plus), and reliable transportation.
