​We are thrilled to see live music performances taking place again in St. Johnsbury. If you’re catching a show of exceptional ALL LOCAL talent at Catamount Arts‘ new ArtPort venue at the Green Mountain Mall in May, we thought we’d highlight some spots downtown to make the most of your time in St. J.
Check out these mini itineraries with suggestions for lunch, fun, and dinner downtown for each performance date this month.

Saturday, May 8, 7:00 pm
The Kingdom All Stars are just like an all star baseball team but with student musicians instead of baseball players. It’s a working band of the most talented, hardworking, and group-oriented student musicians in Caledonia County. Reservations: www.catamountarts.org
May 8th is the first summer St. Johnsbury Farmers Market of the season, so grab some lunch to go from Genuine Jamaican and browse veggies, flowers, baked goods, meats, maple, cheeses, handcrafts, kettle corn, and so much more. Pearl Street Parking Lot, 9am – 1pm.
After the market, stroll along Railroad Street and Eastern Avenue to catch the spring exhibition St. J Art on the Street with works by 14 Northeast Kingdom-based artists. A list of all artists and locations can be found at www.catamountarts.org. For even more art, the Back Room Gallery of the Northeast Kingdom Artisan Guild is showcasing the work of four local artists in 4 Visions: Paper As Medium (plus works by over 100 local artisans in their shop! Still MORE art is on view at the Three River’s Trailhead Pavilion on Bay Street by Alison Bergman.
For dinner before the show, St. J’s newest food vendor, Wandering Vine, is serving vegetarian friendly small plates curated to pair perfectly with the craft beers produced by Whirligig Brewing. Ciders, wines, and non-alcoholic options are available as well. 397 Railroad Street, 11am – 8pm.

Saturday, May 15, 7:00 pm
Bryan Blanchette is an Abenaki Singer/Songwriter who has been singing on the North East Powwow drum circuit for over twenty years. Bryan is currently writing, performing, and recording contemporary Abenaki and “Abenglish” language songs with an infusion of both contemporary and traditional instruments. Cosmic Cup Cafe is a great spot to enjoy some of the best caffeinated beverages in town, and a delicious lunch on their lovely deck. Follow on Facebook for specials: www.facebook.com/CosmicCupCafe 139 Eastern Avenue. Open Saturday 8am – 2pm.
After lunch, walk up to Main Street to explore two local cultural treasures:
The St. Johnsbury Athenaeum is a National Historic Landmark. In addition to serving as the town’s public library, it is home to a fine art gallery showcasing 19th century paintings in their original setting. Admissions information: www.stjathenaeum.org 1171 Main Street. Open Saturday 10am – 3pm.
The Fairbanks Museum showcases permanent and special exhibitions of natural science specimens, historical artifacts, archival photographs and documents, and ethnological treasures. Admissions information: www.fairbanksmuseum.org 1302 Main Street. Open Saturday 10am – 5pm.
Salt Bistro is a delightful spot for pre-show dinner, with a menu of Italian classics. Reservations recommended. Call (802) 424-1690. Bonus: check Facebook for their schedule of live music performances on the deck that evening! 94 Eastern Avenue. Open Saturday 4pm – close.
Do you have time before the show for a quick cocktail? Head next door to St. Johnsbury Distillery to sample locally made spirits distilled onsite. 74 Eastern Avenue. Open Saturday noon – 8pm.

Saturday, May 29, 7:00 pm
Patrick Ross & The Fiddler’s Crew is a result of turning pandemic lemons into lemonade, or in this case, crabapples into cider. With a halt in touring and live performances, Ross put all his creative energy into writing and rehearsing songs about life in Vermont. Reservations: www.catamountarts.org
St. Johnsbury is proud to be the home of Vermont’s only Filipino restaurant, Pica Pica Filipino Cuisine, which is now open for lunch on Saturdays! Reservations highly encouraged for dine-in. Menu and info: www.pica-pica.us Open Saturday 11:30am – 7:30pm.
Just outside of downtown, Dog Mountain, is a great place to spend the afternoon learning more about the vision of artist Stephen Huneck at the Stephen Huneck Gallery and The Dog Chapel. The grounds are a perfect place for a springtime stroll along the beautiful hiking trails and to take in the views (and all the cute pooches!) at the 150 acre wooded dog park. 143 Parks Road. On your way back downtown, you’ll pass not one, but TWO spots to take an afternoon ice cream break. Riley’s Fish Shack (2165 Portland Street) serves classic soft serve. The Milkhouse (292 Portland Street) has a full menu of ice cream shop classics… plus a maple creemee to die for.
Kingdom Table is the perfect spot for dinner, with an endlessly creative menu. Stay a while and savor one of the best beer & wine lists around, featuring hyper-local and hard-to-find global gems.
