There are so many ways to join ongoing efforts to strengthen the fabric of our community. Volunteers are always needed for special events, at our Welcome Center, and on our street team.
Welcome Center Tourism Ambassador
Volunteers with the Welcome Center may sign up for a regular shift weekly or monthly, or choose to be available on an on-call basis. Ambassadors are partners of the Welcome Center and are “the first face” for out-of-town visitors passing through or staying in the town of St. Johnsbury. The role of ambassador is vital to the promotion of St. Johnsbury and the Kingdom as fun, interesting, and resource-filled places to visit for a few hours, a few days, a week/month, or even a lifetime.
A qualified ambassador is someone who: has knowledge of St. Johnsbury and the Northeast Kingdom, is enthusiastic about the town and the region, engages visitors in conversation about their journey and reasons for being in the area, keeps records of visitor contacts, is a great listener, is a storyteller about St. Johnsbury and the Northeast Kingdom, has flexibility in scheduling availability, keeps travel brochures stocked and maintains a positive relationship with the organizations that keep their brochures at the center, knows procedures for opening and closing the Center and how to deal with emergency situations at the Center, suggests ideas about how to make the Welcome Center a memorable experience for visitors, and encourages friends and community members to become ambassadors.
Be a warm body we can call upon for intermittent downtown street beautification work parties. These short commitments are great for someone who likes a short burst of productive work. With a crew of volunteers, most street clean-up sessions run one hour. We notify volunteers of scheduled work parties one week in advance, with reminders one day and one hour before.
