UPDATE: St. Johnsbury's most recent flooding event is still unfolding on July 30, 2024. The resources below will be updated as more information becomes available. On July 11, 2024--one year to the day after last year's devastating flooding--communities around Vermont were impacted once again. In St. Johnsbury, massive flooding on Memorial Drive, Concord Avenue, and elsewhere have caused tremendous damage. Now, one week later, residents and businesses are still working to clean up, muck out, and rebuild their lives. Discover St. Johnsbury is working with the Town of St. Johnsbury, Kingdom United Resilience & Recovery Effort (KURRVE), NEK Organizing, the NEK Chamber of Commerce, and dozens of other partners to respond to the needs of our community members and businesses in the Northeast Kingdom. Read on to find out how you can help the St. Johnsbury community recover: Get Help...For Residents: KURRVE is a one-stop-shop for residents needing information about how to get support. For Businesses: In St. Johnsbury, Discover St. Johnsbury and Northeastern Vermont Development Association are providing free assistance navigating federal, state, and local flood recovery opportunities, and funding as it becomes available. Start by contacting [email protected] / 802-748-8575 to discuss your needs. The Agency of Commerce & Community Development has created a useful page for flood resources. Volunteer...Help Residents Clean Up: First of all, check on your neighbors! Next, NEK Organizing has coordinated a massive effort to first canvas communities to determine need, and next to get volunteers where they're needed most to muck out and clean up homes. EVERYONE'S help is needed, and WILL be needed for the days and weeks to come. Check out upcoming volunteer opportunities here. Help Businesses Clean Up: Contact Discover St. Johnsbury to learn how to support the businesses still recovering from the flooding in St. Johnsbury: [email protected] / 802-748-8575. Give...Financial Relief for Residents: Locally Social Gives, Inc. - NEK Flood Victim Relief Fund. Donate to support flood relief grants that will be distributed directly to individuals across the Northeast Kingdom. The fundraising goal is $50,000 to provide quick and easy financial assistance to flood-affected community members. KURRVE - NEK Unmet Needs Fund. KURRVE anticipates a huge need to provide recovery assistance for NEK individuals affected by both the 2023 and 2024 flooding events. This fund will also be used to support immediate needs, like housing reimbursements and supplies, as well as support for local organizations providing flood relief. Financial Relief for Businesses: The Vermont Main Street Flood Recovery Fund has been reactivated to provide grants of $2,500 to businesses affected by this year's flooding. You can apply to the fund, or make a donation, on their website. Some businesses have also established their own fundraisers, like Dog Mountain. They need your help!
