Our annual dining, shopping & activity guide to celebrating Valentine's Day in St. J is back!

​This year the big day falls on Saturday, February 14th, and St. Johnsbury's businesses are pulling out all the stops for a fantastic weekend.

Activity Guide

Romantic movie showings start early this year, with options available at both of St. J's movie theaters:
  • Starting Thursday, February 5, find showtimes at the Star Theatre of St. Johnsbury for "Solo Mio" (PG) a comedy romance following a man who decides to go on his honeymoon alone after being stood up at his wedding. Find showtimes and get tickets: star4cinemas.com
  • Is horror more your style than hugs? On Friday, February 6 at 7:30pm Catamount Film & Arts hosts a Valentine's-themed iteration of their bi-monthly FREE community film horror series curated by Eric Hauter. "Warm Bodies" (PG-13) follows an undead outsider who begins to rediscover his humanity after falling for a living girl. Prove that you and your honey make a great team at the
 Town of St. Johnsbury Recreation Department's first ever Winter Ice Games & Valentine's Skate event on Friday, February 13. Sign up to take part in some fun & friendly competition at the Four Seasons Ice Rink from 1 - 4pm, including broom hockey, snowball tossing, curling, and sled pulling. Afterwards, family skating will take place from 4 - 6pm with fire pits, popcorn and hot apple cider with FREE skate rentals! Couples take their turn with nighttime skating under the lights from 6 - 8pm. Also on Friday, February 13, St. Andrews Church and Catamount Film & Arts present their regular Community Coffeehouse Concert Series. Bring your date for dinner, dessert, and beverages (for purchase) at a candlelight table, and then enjoy a concert featuring the Northeast Kingdom's finest singer songwriters in the superb acoustics of St. Andrews Church. Hosted by songwriter Bob Amos, the February event presents acoustic duo 'Alive and Well' and guitarist and singer Tom Stamp. Clay'n Around Pottery Studio & The Color Cafe are a great place to DIY your Valentine's gift, or team up with a friend or loved one to create a special experience. It's easy to reserve your pottery painting session (Thursday through Sunday) in advance, or join in their 1st or 4th Tuesday Pottery Painting Club. At Sam's Listening Bar, dedicate your Valentine's Day to your love of music. On Saturday, February 14 check out some sweet tunes from four musical acts including Sam's own Alex Homan, plus Samuel Beat, Beatsblog and Financial Collapse. Learn a new skill with your love at Papa Tirozzi's Pasta Making Class with Melissa Laurita Kohl on Sunday, February 15 at 2pm. For $40/pp you will learn about the process of creating ricotta cavatelli, make your own handmade batch, and then enjoy your creation with Tony's marinara and fresh bread. Each attendee will take home a small bag of freshly prepared pasta. If your heart does flips when you think of your Valentine, consider the KCP Presents performance of Cirque Kalabanté at the Lyndon Institute Auditorium on Sunday, February 15, 7pm. Cirque Kalabanté is a dazzling spectacle by a Montreal-based circus troop with international performers, inspired by daily life in Guinea and showcasing the beauty, youth and artistry of African culture. Don't forget that students attend KCP Present shows for free! Dining Guide

Kingdom Animal Shelter is hosting a Valentine's Spaghetti Dinner a week early on Saturday, February 7 from 5pm - 7pm, at the United Community Church, UCC. The meal includes spaghetti (gluten free available), sauce (with meatballs or vegetarian), salad, garlic bread, drinks, and dessert. Take out is available. Proceeds benefit the Animal Shelter. $15 per person. Children 12 and under eat free! Learn more: ​www.kingdomanimalshelter.com

The Buttery Kitchen & Pantry will kick-off a big weekend with TWO special dining opportunities:
  • On Friday, February 13 from 7pm until late, join them for Playing House: A Lover's Ball. This 21+ event will feature delicious wines, succulent oysters, and dancing to good tunes like sardines in a tin can. Follow them on Facebook or Instagram for more details.
  • On Saturday, February 14 & Sunday, February 15, they'll also be hosting a special Alsatian Cuisine Pop-up Dinner Experience. The menu will feature dishes inspired by Alsace, a border-sharing region between France and Germany. You can expect rich and warming plates to share, gorgeous regional wines to pair, and entrees with proteins accommodating a variety of diets. The two seatings Saturday the 14th  will be by reservation only. Bring your sweetheart, spouse, friends, parents, grandparents, or children to a Valentine's Day Tea at St. Andrew's Church, Saturday, February 14th at noon. Enjoy dishes both savory and sweet including miniature meat pies, tea sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, and a selection of desserts, including vegetarian and gluten free options. Music will be provided by the Kingdom Mountain Dulcimer Group. Tickets are $25 per person, with proceeds supporting the church's building fund. Seating is limited.
